New Trends Report Article – Article 4: New Horizons
CCRW is excited to release the fourth and final article in our 2024 Trends Report: Shaping Tomorrow - Article 4: New horizons - Intersectional insights on work and disability trends in Canada.
This article examines the profound transformations in the landscape of work and disability in Canada, with a focus on understanding the context and implications of these changes. Drawing on findings from the Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD)—a national survey conducted every five years—this report discusses what has changed since 2017, including what's behind the 3% increase in employment rates for persons with disabilities.
Through an intersectional lens, the article highlights trends in labour market outcomes for people with disabilities, including the rise in mental health-related disabilities and the increased rate of disability among youth. These developments are explored alongside contextual factors such as policy changes, national initiatives, and evolving sociocultural attitudes.
The report concludes with a call for collaborative efforts among workers, employers, policymakers, and service providers to drive inclusion and accessibility in Canada’s workplaces.
