Dr. Omar Al-Qatami
Director
Food scientist, Researcher, and Educator
Dr. Omar Al-Qatami (he/him) is a food scientist, researcher, and educator based in Nova Scotia, with experience spanning academia, industry, government, and community service. He holds an MSc and PhD in Food Science from Dalhousie University, where his research focused on thermal analysis, crystallization, and food materials.
Omar brings an international perspective shaped by his education and professional experience across Canada, Jordan and Brazil. He has extensive experience in research and post-secondary education, including teaching engineering at Dalhousie University and chemical engineering at St. Francis Xavier University, where he will also teach Food Science.
Community service has been an important part of Omar’s work. In 2016, he received a Certificate of Volunteer Recognition, presented by the Honourable Lena Metlege Diab, then Nova Scotia Minister of Immigration, for his exceptional contributions to the Syrian Refugee Initiative following his nomination by Friends For Refugees Dartmouth.
As a member of the CCRW Board of Directors, Omar brings scientific, educational, international, public-sector, and community perspectives to the organization. He is committed to advancing accessibility, inclusive employment, and opportunities that enable people with disabilities to participate fully and meaningfully in the workforce.
