Strong Foundations – Supporting Transferable Skill Development for Jobseekers with Disabilities

CCRW is excited to announce the release of Strong Foundations: Supporting Transferable Skill Development for Jobseekers with Disabilities, a new research-based resource designed to support employment service providers and career coaches in helping jobseekers with disabilities develop key employment skills.
Funded by the Government of Canada’s Skills for Success program, this guide builds on findings from the Research in STEAM (Skilled Talent Employment Advantage Method) project, which examined how developing transferable skills; adaptability, collaboration, communication, creativity and innovation, and problem solving , can improve employment outcomes for people with disabilities. Insights were gathered from employers, employment service providers, and jobseekers with disabilities to highlight the importance of these skills in today’s workforce.
This resource provides practical strategies for coaching jobseekers, training recommendations, and guidance on advocating for disability-inclusive hiring practices. It also addresses common misconceptions about the strengths and contributions of workers with disabilities. By equipping service providers with evidence-based approaches, Strong Foundations aims to bridge the gap between jobseekers and meaningful employment opportunities.
