White Cane Week 2024

February 10, 2024 to February 10, 2024

White Cane Week takes place Feb 5th to Feb 10th.

White Cane Week, a significant annual event in Canada, is a dedicated week that aims to raise awareness about the independence and mobility of persons who are blind or visually impaired. Created in partnership by the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), this initiative serves as a platform to highlight the importance of the white cane as a symbol of empowerment and a tool for navigation. The week-long campaign not only educates the public about the challenges faced by those with visual impairments but also celebrates their resilience and ability to lead fulfilling lives.

The Canadian Council of the Blind plays a pivotal role in supporting White Cane Week, advocating for the rights and inclusion of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Through various events, educational programs, and outreach activities, the CCB fosters a sense of community and solidarity among its members. In addition to the collaboration between the Canadian National Institute for the Blind and the Canadian Council of the Blind (CCB), the Canadian Council on Rehabilitation and Work (CCRW) is also deeply committed to supporting White Cane Week. As a key advocate for accessibility and inclusion, CCRW actively participates in this significant event, further amplifying efforts to raise awareness about the independence and mobility of individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Through its dedication to empowering persons with disabilities, CCRW reinforces the importance of the white cane as a symbol of empowerment and navigation tool, contributing to the overall mission of fostering a more inclusive society for all.
